Dear gentle reader, this author is happy to return to our story of our adventures. Lastly we left our tales on the edge of the fearsome land of Mordor. There we finished our quest and destroyed the one ring. It is still strange to think about it. But let us move on to the next days of venturing.

This day was a day of recovery. We still needed to comprehend what we have done mentally and physically. Plaqued with sore muscles and the loss of the ring we set out north. We acomplished several important missions along the way. First of all we fed our stout companion Bert. Secondly we passed by the homeland of the Hobbits. We had set up a meeting with our fellow Hobbits, meaning a drink at the green dragon, for march the 24th, but we passed the area and just wanted to glimpse at the sign. Scared away by the too large Gollum and our need for lunch we hurried on into the mountains. There next to a gurgling stream we ate lunch and then ventured on over the mountains towards the sea.
There we stayed the afternoon and the night. Oh dear reader, the magnificence of the ocean crashing on the shore and the pine covered hills rising up around it, is undescribable.

We talk a lot about the awe and splendor that can be found in Middle earth but that day we left it. Left it only briefly as one is not really allowed to linger too long in this other place for Aslan himself will send you back. That day we visited Narnia, more specifically Aslans Cave. To get there we passed several „path closed“ signs and walked around even more fences, but we were definetly not the only ones. The cave and the beach were beautiful, with steep sandstone cliffs and old trees. The sun was shining brightly off the deep blue water. After a while we made our way back to Bert, passing all the fences and some troll forests. Don't worry the trolls were less like Bill, Bert and Tom and more like the Frozen Trolls. Friendly, a bit shy and great in their wisdom. From there we started the long hard way back to Middle earth. Our mind already on the great brew of the green dragon we would taste the following day.

Hobbiton. Oh what a place.
To get there we rose early and set out to a farm in the heart of a grass and hill covered land, known as the shire. Greeted by a large sign „Welcome to Hobbiton“ we knew we were on the right track. To get to the town, we needed to get on a green bus where we were welcomed by the 2D version of none other that Peter Jackson himself! We were shown around the town by a friendly and enthusiastic Hobbit. He knew a great deal of facts and history of the place, but you needed to ask to get more information about Bagshot row, the party tree and of course Bag End. The most shocking information was that about half of the visitors are in fact humans and have never seen anything of Middle earth before, neither on screen nor on the page. With little surprise it fell to us to answer the lore questions our guide asked the group. We also visited the home of the Proudfoot's, oh pardon me, Proudfeet. The lovely decorated hobbit hole felt very homely, but we did not get the chance to finish the game of Scrabble that someone else started. We had a meeting at the green dragon. So, we walked down the hill, past the mill and over the bridge. There stood the green dragon. Where they make the only brew for the brave and true. Considering we wanted to journey on with Bert that day we choose the gingerbeer, which was not the beer so brown one could only find it in the hobbits hometown, but none the less it was truly astonishing. That there was no alcohol in that brew did not stop us from loudly chanting the green dragon song, we saw performed by Merry and Pippin. Apparently no one else in our party knew the lyrics, because no one joined in. And with the last drop of our drinks we needed to say goodbye to our guide hobbit. Before we left the magical land of the shire we ate one more meal and then headed off.
Our next destination: Weathertop. The ancient watchtower built by men long time ago. We are no rangers, so we did not find the path that would have lead us all the way to Weathertop. Well, we did find a path that lead in the right direction but we were discouraged by the big sign warning trespassers and the fact that it lead to someones home. But we did managed to see Weathertop from the distance.
That evening we halted next to a rugby pitch inside a small town. Right as we started to cook our dinner our cooking fuel ran out. That sad thing happened to us once before and we were expecting it to happen again. Luckily we had some leftover cooked rice and enough ingredients to prepare a NZ version of Gado-Gado. And we have already decided the day before that is was warm enough to sleep without a hot water bottle.

That day our middle earth party was divided. That day we needed to say goodbye to our trusty friend Bill-Errol Took. Before we could do that we needed to pack our belongings and clean. The infrastructure at the rugby pitch we camped that night was even better than we realized the night before. As the other camping parties started to leave we found a spot where we could connect Bert to the high speed flow of negatively charged particles our society is so dependend on. That was the first time that happened in our time with Bert, for these connections usually cost a small fortune. With that and our magnificent cleaning skills we had some time left to work on our never ending to do list, make some magic potion with an electrical kettle!!! And cook some lunch in the microwave. Strengthend we set out to the largest settlement in this country. We filled up Bert, stocked up our own provisions and then said goodbye to Bert.
From there we travelled to the inn we would stay in the next couple off nights. It was very nice to have a bit more space and a bed alone. The downside were the excess of humans wandering about. We used the connection to the library of all things to plan our future adventures and call home.

We took the chance of the blue sky to explore the settlement we stayed in. The city of Auckland is a large modern one. It reminded us a bit of a european city or a small version of Manhattan. Sounds confusing? Then you should just visit it yourself and see what we are talking about. The settlement has a nice waterfront and is filled with nice parks. After a bit of wandering and a nice break we spent climbing a tree we stocked up our provisions and headed back to our Inn. We still had a lot of things to plan for our last weeks of travel. We also started to watch the latest season of Bridgerton as the gentle reader might have noticed in the beginning.

That day was a day of rest and planning. Our plans to head into the country of Pandas and noodles needed to be finished and we needed to gather our strength for the next part of our adventure. Travel fatigue is an illness one should not take lightly and it started to plague us. So we spend the day sitting in front of the kitchen window, spending too much money on trains and eating. We made puff pastry! A meal both of us usually eat very often, but we have found rarely on our travels. Oh, and we finished Bridgerton. This author is not very happy with the ending of the third season. In my very important opinion they should have made at least one more episode.

That is today. We have packed Meeko and Pascal. Left our dormitory and have reclaimed our seats in front of the kitchen window. We need to make our way to the metal bird hub later today. I'm sad to leave the country of hobbits, dwarves and elves. We have seen so much and of course finished our quest. With all our new memories packed away in our minds we are quite ready for the next adventure.
